World Travel Expo, a boon to byaheros

Despite the rise of Siargao and Iloilo as travel destinations in recent years, Cebu, Bohol, Boracay and Batanes remain popular to both locals and foreigners.

This was said by top travel agencies at the recent press conference for The World Travel Expo (WTE) to be held in two venues this year; namely SPACE at One Ayala in Makati City from Oct. 17 to 19, and at Ayala Malls by the Bay from Nov. 14 and 16.

Some of Cebu's top tourist draws are the Magellan's Cross and Oslob whale-watching offer. Boracay, on the other hand, is loved for its white sand beach and night life.

Bohol is renowned for Chocolate Hills and as home of the tarsier, while Batanes has been dubbed as the New Zealand or Scotland of the Philippines.

The topic on destinations was brought up when we mentioned that Siquijor started getting more traction after Anne Curtis' "fairy walk" in one of the falls on the island went viral last year.

According to event organizer Miles Caballero, the Philippines may be going through a lot these days but tourism is still a revenue-maker thanks to its beautiful and varied natural resources and, of course, the friendly Filipinos.

“Let us Discover Beauty. Let us Explore Freely. Let us make this journey unforgettable together," she said on indulging wanderlust.
