Pan de Nora of Kamuning Bakery Cafe: A tasty tribute that's thoughtfully made

Looks like someone has hit gold.

Few days before the birthday of the late National Artist Nora Aunor, Kamuning Bakery Cafe owner rolled out the Pan de Nora, now talk of the town.

Indeed, in such a short time, the bread variant has taken the internet by storm, then the buying public.

People, including content creators, drop by the store so early morning to check out the Pan de Nora unless---heaven forbid---supply runs out for the day (given the high demand, it could happen!).

Why, just last Thursday, "Unang Hirit" hosts Suzi Entrata-Abrera and Boobay even interviewed Wilson about the variant, while surrounded by Noranians clamoring for a bite of the suddenly-famous bread.

It turns out, though, that Wilson has had the idea of "reviving" the Pan de Nora in Manila even before the pandemic.

In making the Pan de Nora, Wilson instructed his baker to make the filling sweet "dahil kilalang may mabuting kalooban si Nora," he said.

The original Pan de Nora, which we heard is still being sold in some parts of Bicol where the singer-actress hailed, has a red mark much like siopao.

Wilson's has black raisin, much like Nora's mole, one of her most distinguishing marks (same as Madonna and Marilyn Monroe).

The cafe owner also made sure the Pan de Nora is affordable. Two pieces of bread cost just 25 php because "hindi elitista si Nora, at mahal siya ng masa."

Anyway, we were told even Filipinos abroad have started placing orders so definitely the Pan de Nora has arrived and it's here to stay. Congrats!
