Why 'Uninvited' actors are being hailed best in their respective categories ahead of MMFF Gabi ng Parangal

With the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in full swing, and with "Uninvited' as leader of the pack, many people look forward to the Gabi ng Parangal tomorrow night, anticipating a sweep of the trophies by this film that truly deserves it.

We saw the movie two days before it opened in cinemas and we felt that Vilma Santos, Aga Muhlach and Nadine Lustre are top contenders in their respective categories.

Especially Vilma who was given this vehicle that allows her to flex even more her already well-oiled acting muscles. "Uninvited" is a revenge story told mostly from her character's perspective and Vilma is just so good in scenes when she lets hate overwhelm her. She was so convincing, so powerful as actress here that we actually applauded everytime she would punish her enemies. The hatred in her eyes, her cold voice---and the love behind the motive----are so affecting to make even the most non-violent person cheer her on.

Only few minutes' screen time and anyone would already ask if it's really Aga doing an essay of his role. With his cherubic face, who would think he can be effective too as villain? Well, Mentorque Productions did and their gamble is paying off big time. What we love most about Aga's character is that it almost borders on a psychological defect that can be sensed in many of the scenes.

You can't put a good woman down and that's exactly what Nadine proves. After her successful comeback in "Deleter" following years of what many deemed as being limbo over a falling out with her studio (now water under the bridge), she is on track of winning an award for playing in "Uninvited" the daughter of a criminal billionaire. Her most trumphant scene was a face off with Vilma where she matched her intensity and did not crumble as lesser actors would have done. Bravo!

We also feel "Uninvited" the movie, itself, should win awards for its technical aspects and story. Here is a world-class movie that will make any Pinoy proud to be one. What ambition, that gloss, the story-telling----how can "Uninvited"  go wrong?
