WATCH: Joel Lamangan inspires actors; runs a tight ship in 'Sisid Marino'

Cast of 'Sisid Marino': Julia Victoria, John Mark Marcia, Ataska and Cariz Manzano

"Sisid Marino" was a fun media conference thanks largely to acclaimed director Joel Lamangan who says it straight with eyebrow raised most of the times.

"Tinanggap ko tong project na to dahil sa pera," he joked.

Of course anybody who knows Joel can vouch that the exacting director is all about quality work delivered in a manner that makes the producer smile. And "Sisid Marino" is no different. During the press conference, the actors talked about learning a lot from Joel and that his exacting ways are actually part and parcel of that.

In return, the director praised the cast composed of Julia Victoria, John Mark Marcia, Ataska and Cariz Manzano. He said all of them can act and he finds them "promising." Joel recalled that John almost quit the first day of shooting because it was a difficult breakdown scene that he thought he could not deliver on.

"Na pack-up yung shooting pero nung sinubukan uli namin next time, nagawa niya ng maayos---pumalakpak pa nga ako," Joel said to that effect.

Asked why his intolerance for tardiness is near "legendary" among insiders, he said coming on time is all about respect for others; that if he can do it, so should everyone.

"Pag late ka, hindi mo lang alam na hindi lang ako ang minumura ka kundi lahat ng taong naabala mo,"  he said. "Kaya wag kang ma-late!"

In "Sisid Marino," a newlywed couple’s sex addiction spirals out of control, jeopardizing their relationships with family, friends, and their community.

In a village in Zambales, childhood sweethearts Elmer (Jhon Mark), a former seaman, and Susan (Julia), a clerk at the local civil registrar’s office, tie the knot. They hold their wedding reception at their seaside home, which Elmer built with his earnings from working abroad. Susan soon becomes pregnant after their passionate honeymoon. Elmer acquires a boat to fish in the West Philippine Sea to support his growing family.

However, their joy turns to sorrow when their baby dies shortly after birth. This hits Susan hard, especially after a previous miscarriage. Elmer’s love and support help her recover, and they focus on trying to conceive again. Financial woes begin to plague them after Elmer’s mother gets scammed and his fishing yields start to dwindle due to territorial disputes in the sea. Desperate, he turns to relatives and friends to collect debt they owe him.

Elmer gets depressed with their situation but is revitalized by Susan in bed. They use their relentless lovemaking as an antidote to their distress. More complications arise when Flor (Ataska), a seductive neighbor indebted to Elmer, tempts him into having an affair as her payment. Susan senses his infidelity, initially suspecting her sister, Abby (Cariz), who is close with Elmer.

To keep a close watch on him, Susan quits her work. And after the bank repossesses Elmer’s boat, both of them become jobless. Despite their hunger and mounting debts, they have incessant sex all day long instead. They even practice dangerous sexual habits for a more intense climax. Their behavior begins to alarm their family and friends, prompting the couple to treat them as adversaries and isolate themselves.
As their sex obsession takes a dark turn, Elmer and Susan are thrust into a world of delusions and startling revelations. Is too much of something really bad? Will their intense passion for each other lead to fatal consequences?
