Although we're not a fan of action thriller movies, exhilarating, enjoyable and expensive are words that come to mind when we think about "In The Grey" currently in PH cinemas.
Starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez, the story of the movie directed by Guy Ritchie has billion dollars at stake that propel the characters to undertake several explosive extraction missions. The story managed to not become ho-hum predictable by presenting a battle of strategy between clever minds, from the covert to the criminal, that left viewers glued to their seats, eyes wide open.
Gyllenhaal and Cavill as a team just totally fit, making them a joy to watch in the chase and shootout scenes. The two move in the shadows and "operate between the moral and the immoral — between black and white," hence, the title of the movie.
For us, though, it's Gonzalez as Rachel Wild who shines throughout the film. She's stylish as she is sly that we knew even an island run by a private army can't possibly contain her (nor do the baddies deserve her beauty, haha).
Wild is cool and collected even as she is calculating and classy. She has the best lines in the movie. How can anyone not love her?
We also enjoyed Carlos Bardem's performance as ruthless tycoon Manny Salazar. He looked every bit dangerous just by sitting there; more so when he explodes in rage and throws his weight around. His final scene had us raising a fist in jubilation.
As usual, Ritchie delivered rapid-fire dialogue and dynamic editing as we've seen in his past works ("Snatch," etc.). "In The Grey" is another styled crime comedy that deserves its place among his trophies.
According to a release from Philippine distributor CreaZion Studios, "In The Grey" was inspired by real stories from international lawyers who specialize in recovering massive debts hidden through shell companies and offshore accounts.
Scenes from "In The Grey" were shot in Spain and Saudi Arabia. If only for the aesthetics, "In The Grey" certainly screams "must-watch rollercoaster ride." Enjoy!
