Exactly 20.
That's the count of cyber libel raps Yasmine Vargas, wife of public servant Alfred Vargas, filed against a certain individual she charged with making false claims on social media against her, Alfred and their children.
In a lengthy Instagram post on April 20, Yasmine said doing so signifies standing up for her son and those who might have suffered similar fate as he did.
Recall that days prior, QC councilor Alfred and Yasmine filed a complaint with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila against the parents of a minor who allegedly bullied and abused their child during swimming training.
The minor's parents allegedly violated the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, and they failed to fulfill their legal duty under the Family Code to supervise and discipline their child.
Yasmine pointed out that she is actually not the type who looks for conflict.
"We tried to handle this quietly and peacefully—para sa kapakanan ng aming mga anak, na dumaan na sa matinding sakit at trauma," she wrote. "But there comes a point when silence is no longer an option."
She categorically claimed the things being said about her family online in connection with the bullying issue are "false" and meant "to damage our name and reputation."
Yasmine pled for the public to "choose kindness" when it comes to these matters.
"Huwag na po nating dagdagan ang sakit sa pamamagitan ng paninira, haka-haka, o masasakit na salita—lalo na online," she said. "Bullying, in any form, has no place in our community."
