Rising band The Sonnets won't 'stay in one lane'

It's the right time to be in a band with OPM in full swing for some years now.

Leading the charge among the new ones is power trio The Sonnets composed of Migo Bergado (lead vocals/guitar/keyboard), Justine Annie (guitar) and Mugen Gatchalian (drums).

In an interview during the launch of their first single "Lumalamig" now in digital platforms worldwide, Migo said that while they have written songs enough to fill two albums, their music doesn't fall under an umbrella.

"We don't stay in one lane," he said. "We don't write music for a specific genre or era."

Maybe because their process is collaborative with each member having unique musical persuasion. In the beginning, The Sonnets tended to sound New Wave-ish but it's gloves off now as heard even in the next single "Hanggang Ngayon" due February 2026.

Did you know the lyrics of "Lumalamig" was written in just 10 minutes? Migo said it's about loss, not necessarily romantic; something cold weather reminds especially.

Migo and Justine have been playing in 2022. But only when Mugen signed up did The Sonnets really move forward musically.

The band is in-demand in the live circuit and if their recent performance at Lando's inside BF Resort Village is any indicatiion, The Sonnets will likely be on everyone's lips soon enough.
