International singer-songwriter Celesst Mar is out to make a name in the Philippine music scene with the release of her full-length debut album featuring R&B tracks with touches of alternative and pop.
During a recent listening party held exclusively for select members of media, the Pinay born and raised in Hawaii revealed "Fawn" songs navigate human emotions and experiences---from bliss and sadness, all the way to denial, anger and accountability.
Among Celesst music that we enjoyed are her first single "Your Act" (released last May) and her version of "Holy Night" that sounds influenced by Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande though still bearing her inimitable style.
"The best music is the kind that reaches people, touches hearts, and makes listeners feel," she said.
Actually, Celesst already has strong following on social media for her freediving posts. She frequents Anilao, Batangas and it's her dream to dive in all seven seas. No wonder her stage name translates to "heavenly sea" in Latin!
We asked Celesst if the profound silence she experiences underwater has impacted her music and she concurred. After all, music theory states the rest between the notes account for half the music so we're not surprised at all with her answer.
Before becoming a recording artist, Celesst was an aspiring college professor, then a news anchor. She took up Communication and Political Science at California State University, San Marcos.
Even more beautiful in person, Celesst received a co-management offer on the spot during the listening party. Who knows, maybe she'll turn out to be a fine actress too...
