What 'Dreams' may come for Gerald Santos

Gerald Santos

Pinoy Prince of Ballad Gerald Santos has aptly titled his upcoming concert "Dreams" partly because many of his wishes and goals have come to past even as new ones wait in the wings to be realized.

He talked about these things at a recent press conference tendered for the musical extravaganza happening at Newport Performing Arts Theater inside Newport World Resorts on Dec. 3, 2025.

The biggest dreams fulfilled in his career were winning the title on "Pinoy Pop Superstar" and eventually being cast as Thuy in "Miss Saigon" --- but what else does Gerald's heart desire?

"I want to have a hit song and movie that will be my legacy," he said to that effect. "I want to create these para may mababalik-balikan ang tao sa akin long after I retire."

Although an awarded singer, Gerald is yet to conquer the pop realm as his talent deserves, as he has been more associated with theater acting and singing after "Miss Saigon." His natural singing style as well as his vocal timbre and range predispose him to ballads and, well, "contest" (read: birit) songs despite that he can do other genres too.

"Except R&B," he allowed. "Hanggang pang-light R&B lang tayo."

Then again, while having a more recent hit song is in the works for Gerald, his achievements in the industry already makes him poster boy of the adage that dreams do come true.

"Thankfully naabot ko (mga pangarap ko) at umabot tayo dito," he humbly said.

These include giving his family their own house and being happy as far as matters of the heart go. He recently went to the US with girlfriend Grace where they had a "chill" time traveling.

But the main reason the concert is titled so is that night, Gerald gets to sing numbers he has not previously done but had always wanted to do --- 20 in all!

"Because dreams are limitless, the concept of the show allows me to sing anything I want even those outside of my comfort zone," explained he. "It's a challenge memorizing the lyrics and learning the melodies set against the arrangements especially made for me."

A portion of the show not to be missed is his tribute to the late Nora Aunor and Cocoy Laurel. Gerald also gets to work with international theater star Na Young Jeon, his co-star in "Miss Saigon."

"She happens to be in Korea that day so we told her we'd just fly her to Manila so we could finally do this that we've long talked about."

The other guest performers in "Dreams" are Jona, Jed Madela and Marco Sison; as well as Failene Malijan, Kim Hewitt, and Andrea Gutierrez.

The concert will benefit the Good Samaritan Foundation of the Mary Mediatrix Medical Center and the COURAGE Movement.

Asked what keeps him going despite that he can afford to rest in his laurels, Gerald gave practical answer.

"There's still gas left in the tank," he said. "I still have a lot to offer."
