Many people agree Philippine heroine Lakambini Gregoria de Jesus is relatively unrecognized in history but that might change starting November 5.

As the movie about her unfinished quest for justice rolls out in cinemas, one of the lead actors, Rocco Nacino, said in an interview that honoring her with something like this is long overdue.

"Once you learn kung ano mga pinagdaanan niya and what she stood for, you can say this movie is about the strength of a woman, about equality," he said in an interview.

He revealed the movie took 10 years to make, even joking that is the reason in sone scenes he looks "period" or from a certain time in the past.

In fact, when she and Lovi Poe, who plays the titular character, started filming, they were still a tomantic couple.

Well, everyone knows both have moved on with their lives with Rocco noting that, if anything, it was nice seeing Lovi's growth "lalo na yung kalibre niya sa pagarte."

What proved to be challenging doing "Lakambini?"

"The costume kasi ang init!" he said to that effect. "Also, the way they spoke in those days, iba yung nuance, yung pauses---very formal, ika nga."

The actor underscored young people should also watch "Lakambini" if only to be reminded "what we're fighting for."

"May pagasa pa ding umunlad kung gagawin natin ang tama," he said. "Kailangan natin magtulungan."

Directed by Jeffrey Jeturian, "Lakambini Gregoria de Jesus" is a creative meta docu-fiction with screenplay by Arjanmar Rebeta and production by Ellen Ongkeko- Marfil.

The movie also casts Paulo Avelino, Spanky Manikan, Gina Pareno, Elora Espano, among others.

Gregoria de Jesus is recognized as the "Lakambini of the Katipunan" and "Mother of the Philippine Revolution." She was the partner of Andres Bonifacio.
