Hong Kong iconic actor Simon Yam will be the Star Celebrity for the upcoming AIFFA 2025.
Fans are in for a treat as he makes his appearance at various locations in the capitol, when the seventh ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards takes place from the 12th to 15th November.
Simon is a prolific and highly respected Hong Kong actor and film producer known for his extensive career spanning more than 50 years. He has worked in Hong Kong cinema since the 1970s, establishing himself as a highly respected and recognizable actor. Highly versatile, he has played a wide array of roles, from ruthless triad bosses to complex policemen.
His memorable performances that earned him critical acclaim include the films PTU (2003), Election (2005), and SPL: Sha Po Lang (2005). He also starred in the Young and Dangerous film series and the biopics Ip Man and Ip Man 2.
He made his Hollywood debut in 2003 in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, starring opposite Angelina Jolie. Simon started directing in 2013 with a segment of the 2013 horror portmanteau film Tales from the Dark 1.
He has received numerous accolades for his performances in over 240 films and 90 television series. Among the awards are:
• The Hong Kong Film Awards: Won Best Actor for his role in the 2010 film Echoes of the Rainbow.
• Golden Bauhinia Awards: Won Best Actor twice, for the films PTU (2003) AIFFA SARAWAK ‘25 and Election (2005).
• London East Asia Film Festival: Received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
Besides the world of film, he has taken a keen interest in art. This year, he held a photography exhibition in Hong Kong and is also a painter.
While in Kuching, Simon will have a busy schedule as he will be visiting places of interest, among them, the Sarawak Cultural Village and Borneo Cultures Museum, to immerse and learn about the local Sarawak culture and history.
Among the highlights of AIFFA, since it first began in 2013 is the Meet & Greet Session. This year, Simon Yam will be meeting his fans at a new venue, the Kuching Waterfront on 15th November. He will be on a cruise along the Sarawak River to see the iconic attractions of Kuching.
A press conference onboard follows. Fans are invited to meet the star in person at the Godown Amphitheatre, Kuching Waterfront at 4 p.m. after the cruise.
The highly anticipated AIFFA 2025 Gala Night, a showbiz spectacle of top ASEAN performers, best ASEAN films and awards will also be attended by Simon Yam. Members of the public can also attend this ticketed event on Saturday 15th November where the winners of the shortlisted ASEAN are awarded.
