AIFFA 2025 back in Kuching from Nov. 12 to 15

The ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards 2025 will make its comeback in Kuching, Sarawak from the 12th to 15th November 2025. 

According to AIFFA officials Rain Yamson II and Fadhilla Abdulla at the recent Manila press conference, the seventh edition of the festival will see a rangeof activities and culminate during the Gala Night where the best among film entries submitted from the 10 ASEAN countries will be awarded with the coveted AIFFA trophy.

The film festival began in 2013, and is hosted in Kuching, Sarawak, where around 300 in the film industry ranging from producers, directors, cast and crew gather in the capital city to network, discover the latest trends in the film industry and enjoy the star-studded Gala Night where some of them have their films shortlisted for the prestigious AIFFA awards. 

The program for 2025 promises to be more exciting, with more activities line-up. Venues this year includes the Spring Mall, Borneo Cultures Museum, the Kuching Waterfront and the Pullman Hotel.

As a countdown to AIFFA, there will be an ASEAN film exhibition, gallery, handicraft bazaar, children’s colouring competition at the Event Space at Spring Mall. There will be several workshops, including a Scriptwriting Workshop by Dato’ Erma Fatima, a filmmaker. An acting workshop will berun by Vanidah Imran, an award-winning Malaysian actress. Meet And Greet by ASEAN celebrities will also be held here.

There will also be screening of short film works by university students from around ASEAN, competing for the ASEAN UNIFEST awards. The theme for their entries revolve aroundSustainable Development Goals, as outlined by the United Nations Charter. This will be held on the 12th of November and the public is invited to attend all the above events free of charge.

A new category making its debut is the Borneo Documentary Awards. Filmmakers who have produced documentaries based in Borneo and East Malaysia can submit their entries throughthe aseanfilmfestival.my. website, where they can find out more on the festival. The documentaries submitted will be shown at the Auditorium of the Borneo Cultures Museum on 14th November, to be followed by the presentation of awards. The Masterclasses and feature film screenings will also be at held this venue. Members of the public can also attend these events for free.

The final day is 15th November whereby the star celebrity will Meet and Greet fans at the Kuching Waterfront at the Jetty near the Godown Amphitheatre. The celebrity will go on a short cruise on the Sarawak River, followed by a media conference. The celebrity will also meet fans at the Godown Amphitheatre.

The Gala Night, to be held at the Colosseum, Pullman Hotel Kuching is the highlight of AIFFA as the glamourous dinner show will see top ASEAN performers entertain the guests.Among them are M. Nasir, Vince Chong and Mimifly.
