MTRCB reaffirms commitment to protect women and children in Anti-OSAEC meeting

MOVIE and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto took part in the 11th Manila International Dialogue Technical Working Group on Anti-OSAEC Meeting on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, held at the Department of Justice, Manila.

The meeting focused on developing strategies to combat Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), an increasing concern in both the local and global digital landscape.

During the breakout session, Sotto shared the MTRCB’s responsibilities under Presidential Decree No. 1986 and highlighted the Agency’s commitment to protecting not only the Filipino children but also women through its Responsableng Panonood campaign, which aims to raise public awareness and understanding on responsible media consumption, as well as the important role of parents and guardians in guiding their children when choosing age-appropriate contents.

The meeting also brought together representatives from the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Justice (DOJ), Philippine telecommunications companies such as Globe, PLDT and Smart, as well as international partners including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Embassy and Australian Embassy.

Sotto reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to promote responsible media consumption to protect Filipino women and children from exploitation.

“Protecting women and children from online abuse requires unity, vigilance and compassion. By working closely with our local and international partners, the MTRCB stands firmly in its role of promoting responsible media consumption while contributing to broader efforts to safeguard Filipino women and children from exploitation,” said Sotto.

The Board continues to align its initiatives with both national and global movements, ensuring that the viewing public, especially the Filipino women and youth, remain protected, informed and empowered.
