| Rhian Ramos and JC Santos in 'Meg & Ryan' |
The local box-office has enjoyed mild successes in two Pinoy movies these last two weeks. When "Meg & Ryan" opens tomorrow in cinemas nationwide, many hope it will do well too, also as part of a series of good events.
We attended the red carpet screening of the Rhian Ramos-JC Santos starrer and know it has fighting chance mainly because pf its merits and timing. We were completely hooked with the story and impressed with the acting to resonate with so many people.
Written by Gina Marissa Tagasa and directed by Catherine Camarillo, the movie is about two strangers whose paths cross at the most unexpected time.
Meg (played by Rhian) has been struggling over her drinking problem since she was 18 while Ryan (JC) has totally surrendered himself to being single for the rest of his life---and still a virgin at 35! A peculiar event will bring them together and will totally change their lives.
We think "Keg & Ryan" is the quintessential Millennial movie. The situations the characters find themselves in or how they react are typical of that generation. Not a tweetum movie though with many kilig moments to be sure, we see young adulting before us though more troubled than usual which makes the story engaging from start to finish.
That is, the viewer wants to know: Will two individuals with complementary personalities survive when they find themselves in unexpected roller-coaster situation? Can true love still conquer all despite such things as silly barkada challenges and having set ways of doing things?
Times have changed and so have the stories of the youth. Still, the movie serves as reminder that values and morals are not tethered to season or clime.
Also in the cast of "Meg & Ryan" are Cedrick Juan, Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva, Jef Gaitan, J-Mee Katanyag, and social media stars Steven Bansil and Poca Osinaga, with beauty queen Alison Black.
Pocket Media Productions Inc. will also bring "Meg & Ryan" to Australia & New Zealand for screening on Aug. 14.
