In a time when branding is as important as talent when making it big in the music scene, Isha Ponti offers straightforward pop devoid of agenda---not even to hit the charts.
She said so at a recent press conference when we asked if, like many newbies, her biggest goal is to have a signature hit.
She plainly said she is "not out for a hit" especially if it means being untrue to her sound, her musical inclination.
We listened to some of her songs on Spotify, including "You Loved Me First" about mothers, and it's obvious she is for timeless songs not trendy, focusing on the truths behind every delivery than dazzling all with technique and /or technicalities. Such mindset and integrity at just 19 years old!
Well, she did start young. Isha wrote her first song even before she hit her teens. She had also won in an international talent search, besting more than 100 competitors from different countries.
Yet she remains humble. When some fans of an established singer started questioning her moniker previously used by their idol, Isha said they should just consider her "new gen" of whatever pop music persuasion.
It should be said though that Isha is producer and managing director of Ponti Productions. And she won Best New Female Artist at the Aliw Awards. Those count!
On the message behind "You Loved Me First," Isha said, "My mom has been my anchor — her belief in me makes every note possible."
Some of her other recordings are “Life Isn’t Perfect,” “Babalik Ka,” “Tara,” “Pakpak,” “Dyahe” and "Imvincible."
Isha recently opened for Marco Sison at “Seasons of OPM” and will be performing at the 50th anniversary concert of Nonoy Zuñiga, ”Beyond Gold – Songs of a Lifetime” on September 5 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
