Anything goes with InnerVoices at Aromata

InnerVoices

We've watched InnerVoices enough times to know that they are masters in making thoughtfully orchestrated shows seem spontaneous, just fun.

But our first time attending their gig recently at Aromata in Quezon City made us realize that anyone--even an InnerVoices disciple---who wants to catch them at their most relaxed state should go there.

At Aromata, at least that night, no genre dominated the playlist, unlike in many of their other shows when you can tell it was a, say, New Wave night or a pop-R&B night or an "experimental" night.

The vibe was so chill that it felt as if there was no playlist; as if a member would just play something and the rest would pick it up from there.

As if it was all jam---that while actually far-fetched, it's not entirely impossible to pull off for InnerVoices considering how meticulously studied each of their songs are, be that cover or original.

The Aromata gig was also the first time I saw some members of media called on stage (myself included!). Oh, InnerVoices have called on random people in other shows at other venues to sing with their vocalists, sure. But the guest performers were almost always connected to the band in some way or another (daughter of a former member, a former member, etc.).

We must have been psychic because prior our "collaboration" with InnerVoices on stage, we mentioned to band leader Atty Rey Bergado that maybe it would be nice if they could have a show with a guest female vocalist. That way, hit duets could be served, and the lady singer could do such 80s staples as "Manic Monday" by The Bangles, "Head Over Heels" by The Go-Go's and maybe even "Venus" by Bananarama. Now that will be the day!

Well, Atty Bergado disclosed that they've actually thought about it too and are seriously considering to make it happen. Exciting!

Because from there, who's to say what could come next? A #2 shows (repertoire consists of songs that only charted as high as second place)? A 1985 show (hits only from that year)? InnerVoices Unplugged? Sky is the limit as far as concepts go.

That's why you don't grow tired of InnerVoices. Or their music. Or their shows.

The band journeys with us. We grow together
