Born and raised in Canada, 16-year-old Shane wants to be known as a versatile singer that's why despite being able to do songs by her influences Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, she has rolled out the mid-tempo and grooving "My Boy" as maiden single.
At a recent press conference, the teenager who reminds us of a younger Nadine Lustre recalled that she actually released two singles prior, as early as when she was nine years old.
However, iconic songwriter Vehnee Saturno, advised her to see him once it's easier to write songs for her age.
"Siyempre at nine years old, limitado pa ang kantang pwede niyang gawin, like, hindi naman pa siya pwede mag-love song noon," said Vehnee to that effect. "Now that she's 16, we have a song na hindi lang bagay sa kanya kundi for the Gen Z market din."
"My Boy" is actually a Darren Espanto-original titled "My Girl' that was never released as a single. But you'll never know it once you put it side-by-side Shane's version. That's because "My Boy"---from arrangement to vocal styling---is totally different.
In a line, Shane truly owned.
We remember praising her present vocal coach, Ladine Roxas, from keeping true to the unique quality of Shane's voice instead of vocal technique. The young singer sounds like no one else locally which could just be the edge she needs to make it big in the local music industry.
"My Boy" already has three music videos online, all shot in the Philippines. While Shane will give it her all to make it big here, she options to study any Performing Arts course in New York City if that is where this goes.
Asked to name a local artist she'd like to work with, Shane cited BINI.
"We're almost of the same age and I know we could have the same fan base and maybe help each other grow that," she said to that effect.
Vehnee, who released "My boy" under Vehnee Saturno Music, has high hopes for Shane.
"She's very determined and works hard," he lauded. "I hope we could all help make her dreams come true."
Shane also credits Josie de Leon of JDL Performing Arts in Canada to have honed her singing and introduced her to Vehnee.
