InnerVoices continues to capture the live music circuit in Metro Manila, one venue at a time.
After performing at Tunnel Bar last week, the band is set to perform at Noctos Music Bar on July 22.
Their regular performances at 19 East in Paranaque, Aromata in Quezon City, Hard Rock Cafe in Makati and Bar IX in Alabang are not only always well-attended whenever they perform (yes, even on weekdays!), but are talked about too even by long-time followers, especially lately.
Having versatile new vocalist Patrick Marcelino has made a huge difference in the expansion of their repertoire. Although InnerVoices will always be loved for their originals and '80s New Wave covers, these past weeks have seen the band take on R&B and ballads such as "Wildflower" by Skylark and "All I Need" by Jack Wagner.
Listening to Patrick, it is clear he is confident in and capable of tackling all types of genres because his tool (that voice---what were you thinking?) allows him to do so. Performing abroad for years has honed his stage persona to be as engaging as the best of them. He jokes with the audience, banters with the other band members, dances like no one's watching, adjusts his singing to up the energy of the crowd, gives way to the crowd when he senses they want to take over---this guy is a truly magnificent find for InnerVoices that seems to be on the cusp of reinvigoration, if not reinvention.
Of course, a band can't be just about one person. Musical director and lead keyboard player Atty Rey Bergado, guitarists Rene Tecson and Alvin Herbon, drummer Joseph Esparrago and 2nd keyboard player Joseph Cruz are the epitomes of consummate musicians with passion for music that hasn't waned despite the years of playing regularly to different types of audiences. They are the foundation.
We can't wait to see InnerVoices years down the line.
As the song goes, the future's so bright, we gotta wear shades.:)
