Those thinking the upcoming movie "Meg & Ryan" is your usual love story or rom-com have obviously not spoken with director Catherine Camarillo.
In an interview, she revealed to Rider PH and select members of media that the original trailer of the movie got an "X" rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) much to her surprise, if not chagrin.
"I never got to know why it got rated so, but I got depressed (over it)," she admitted to that effect. "Dahil ba may word na f***? Or sex? Or was it Rhian (Ramos) crossing the street naked? Because I wasn't trying to do an 'X' rated film at all."
Whatever it was, from that incident alone, it's safe to assume Meg and Ryan's story is far from being cookie-cutter.

Written by Gina Marissa Tagasa, with revised trailer eventually getting a "PG" rating, "Meg & Ryan" from Pocket Media Productions Inc. is about two strangers whose paths cross at the most unexpected time.
Meg has been struggling over her drinking problem since she was 18 while Ryan (played by JC Santos) has totally surrendered himself to being single for the rest of his life---and still a virgin at 35! A peculiar event will bring them together and will totally change their lives.
Well, so much for a movie with title that serves as homage to Hollywood actress, '80s rom-com queen Meg Ryan.
"Alcoholic meets workaholic," Catherine said. "This is the reason we did not go for a young and established love team. We needed adult actors in the lead roles who both could pull off the characters."
The director hopes that with the story and its many scenes with subliminal messages, audiences would leave the theater reflecting on what they just saw.
"They are two individuals who complement each other. Will they survive having opposite personalities when thrusted in an unexpected roller-coaster situation?" she underscored.
Find out when the movie opens in theaters nationwide on Aug. 6.; then in Australia & New Zealand cinemas on Aug. 14.
Also in the cast of "Meg & Ryan" are Cedrick Juan, Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva, Jef Gaitan, J-Mee Katanyag, and social media stars Steven Bansil and Poca Osinaga, with beauty queen Alison Black.
