Yul Servo Nieto: Soldier of Service, Beacon of Unity in Manila

Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto

Amid the noise of politics and relentless exchange of harsh words in Manila, one leader remains calm, steadfast, and principled—Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto. For nearly two decades, he has faithfully served the city, proving at every stage of his career that he is not just a politician, but a true soldier of service—ready to sacrifice and take action for the good of his fellow Manileños.

Service Rooted in the Heart of the People

As Councilor of Manila’s 3rd District, he immediately challenged the norm. Instead of limiting his role to lawmaking, he launched Araw N’yo, Serbisyo Ko: Medical Mission—a program offering free check-ups, medicine, haircuts, massages, and meals to those in need. It was proof that true public service doesn't need to be expensive, only heartfelt. In one medical mission, an elderly woman was moved to tears after receiving free maintenance medicine for high blood pressure—something she couldn’t afford before. That is the kind of service that truly matters.

Disciplined and Dedicated Legislator

In Congress, Yul Servo Nieto became a model of dedication. He filed 1,224 House Bills, 128 of which became law—a remarkable record. As Deputy Majority Floor Leader, he never missed a single session—discipline rarely seen in public office. He championed laws with tangible benefits, especially for the poor and marginalized.

Projects That Truly Serve the People

Now, as Vice Mayor, his service continues with impact. He has overseen 69 infrastructure projects, including 220 classrooms across 16 schools, barangay halls, courts, libraries, and health facilities like the Calalang Dialysis Center. He also expanded social programs such as Kasalang Bayan (mass weddings every Valentine’s), Operation Tuli and Summer Baptisms, and Kusina Manileño, a feeding program that has served more than 30,000 individuals. In addition, he distributed over ₱107 million in Guarantee Letters for medical aid to indigent patients.

Modernizing the Council: Open, Digital, and Efficient Governance

One of Yul's most meaningful legacies is his vision to modernize and digitize city governance. As Vice Mayor, he spearheaded the launch of the official website of the Manila City Council, giving the public direct access to ordinances, resolutions, and other important information—a move toward full transparency and accessibility.

But this initiative goes beyond technology—it’s about returning power to the people. He also led the creation of the General Code of Ordinances 2024, a streamlined and updated compilation of local laws, written in clear language and made more accessible to all. For Yul, modern governance must be fast, open, and honest—and that is exactly the path he is forging for Manila.

Beacon of Unity

Through all of this, Yul Servo Nieto has shown that even in the rough terrain of politics, genuine service is still possible. As he seeks another term as Vice Mayor, he brings with him the experience, compassion, and concrete plans of a leader who doesn’t just make noise—he makes change.

In his own words: “We will continue to serve the united people of Manila—for the city we all love.” In times of division, he remains the guiding light—humble, steady, and a true soldier of the people.
