Regular folks don't think much about it but in show business, name could spell the difference between success and failure.
No wonder many have stage names that were carefully crafted or picked from which image and branding are built around. Lani Bayot is tad less sophisticated than Lani Misalucha. Stell of SB19 sounds crisp and hip compared to the cumbersome Stellvester.
And there's certainly nicer ring to Cup of Joe than Pink Soda if you're not an all-female group to begin with, don't you think?
Recently, rising Ppop group 1621 comprised by JM, Win, JC, Migz, Pan and DJ announced they are dropping the BC from their name as they enter a new era with the release of their EP "Sapulso."
"Nahanap na namin yung sound namin," they said at a press conference. "This is us."
The songs in the collection are "Bagamundo," "Bababa," "Maria," "Diwata," "Stuck" and "Secret."
Finding their musical identity wasn't an easy task. The boys said they have had to fearlessly try different genres before settling on the perfect amalgamation that is the DNA of 1621 no matter where they take the music.
Note that in history, BC stands for the era Before Christ, meaning all of the time prior to the birth of Jesus Christ. With that, we can deduce 1621 is now on AD or "Anno Domini" (in the year of the Lord) which present times will always be called, thus, the group promoting this their "modern" sound.
Indeed, 2025 is shaping up to be more exciting time for the group. Prior to releasing their EP, the boys collaborated with SB19 on TikTok. 1621 was also featured performer in one of BINI's big concerts.
At the launch, the boys were officially welcomed to the Aivee Clinic family.
The name 1621 is inspired by the belief it's an angel number that's seen presaging success.
The group is managed by PPL Entertainment Inc. and ABS-CBN Music Management Group (MMG) under the StarPop label.
