Does Yassi Pressman deserve to get best actress nom for 'Isolated'?

Why did Yassi Pressman accept horror-thriller movie "Isolated" when she isn't a fan of both genres?

In fact, the last horror movie she watched was "Insidious" way back 2010.

"For the challenge," the actress said at a press conference. "At pinaghandaan ko talaga ang character ko dito sa 'Isolated' at ang journey niya."

In the movie, young nurse Rose (played by Yassi) is hired as private nurse to crippled old man with dementia named Peter (Joel Torre). He has been alone for the longest time, has a strange and mysterious personality, and though he may look helpless and harmless in his wheelchair, Rose finds something very off-putting with him.

As Rose stays alone with Peter in his eerie house, the poor woman goes through crippling anxiety and sleepless nights as she always feels like someone's watching her. She also experiences disturbing visions and encounters with the spirits around the house.

Yassi Pressman

Yassi was so creeped out with the prospect of doing a horror movie that she had to read the script of "Isolated" with a companion and in a public place---a swimming pool to be exact.

"Kaso may swimming pool scene din pala yung story na nakakatakot," she said, laughing.

Aside from challenging herself, Yassi couldn't pass up on the chance of working with multi-awarded Joel Torre. The two were on "Ang Probinsyano" for more than five years.

Yassi also wanted to work with director Benedict Mique, a Gawad Urian nominee.

In the same gathering, Mique boldly declared that if critics were to take Joel and Yassi seriously in "Isolated"---and not think of it as "just" a horror movie----he thinks they deserve best actor and best actress nods.

Also in the cast are Candy Pangilinan, Wilbert Ross, Gwen Garci, Yayo Aguila, and Denise Esteban.

"Isolated" opens in theaters nationwide on April 30.
