How GAT stands out as a P-pop group

GAT

Up and coming boy group GAT is joining the P-pop universe with a sound all their own.

"We're going for James Reid-sounding songs na mala-year 2012," said Ethan David, acknowledged by the group as their "unofficial" leader. "Yung swabe lang na tunog, na parang nag-long drive."

The vibe they, er, imbibe looks to be connecting with the Pinoy music lover as they have been producing one viral hit after another, foremost of these is "Daleng-Dale."

Asked about it, the boys also including
Charles Law, Michael Keith, Derick Ong, and Hans Paronda are surprised about it albeit pleasantly, of course.

Under the management of Ivory Music and V AA (Viva Artists Agency), the quintet's collective name GAT stands for "Gawang Atin To," but it is also rooted from the old Filipino honorific “Gatdula. ” It is given to Pinoy gentlemen back in the day who brought pride and honor to the country, including Gat Jose Rizal and Gat Andres Bonifacio.

GAT first made an impression among P-Pop fans with their pre-debut performance video last January, covering the James Reid hit “Huwag Ka Nang Humirit,” adding a youthful vibrance, smooth harmony, and dynamic flair to the already-high energy Viva Records track.

After that, they got P-Pop fans talking even more when they covered “Marikit” by Juan Caoile and Kyleswish.

But it was their hit cover of “Daleng-Dale” that made huge waves in the P-Pop scene. GAT’s rendition of the MMJ single, which is also an original soundtrack for the Viva One hit series Ang Mutya ng Section E, recently hit #8 on Spotify Philippines’ Daily Viral Songs chart. Moreover, their choreography of the hit song has also gone viral, being covered by netizens nationwide on TikTok.

GAT has also made their presence known in various local guest performances on television and in local events. Just these past few months, they made their first television guest appearance in the “Sugod Campus” segment of Eat Bulaga and had Zambales fans cheering with electric performances at their annual Singkamas Festival.

Most of the members of GAT are also part of the supporting cast of Ang Mutya ng Section E which is headlined by Andres Muhlach, Ashtine Olviga, and Rabin Angeles, entertaining audience members not just onstage but onscreen as well.
