The Sarah Discaya mindset

Sarah Discaya

Despite being pitted against Vico Sotto in the coming elections, and despite what may be deemed by some people as issues between them, seasoned entrepreneur Sarah Discaya says theirs is but "friendly competition."

"Suntok sa buwan... syempre ang kalaban namin isang pader, isang Sotto...pero we're taking our chances," the Pasig City mayoralty bet told media yesterday at a press conference.

She is doing battle, so to speak, armed with a solid platform. Her biggest plans for her city center on reforms in healthcare, economic growth, tourism, Smart City innovations, flood control management, improvement of road traffic, aerial firefighting and rescue operations, women and PWD (person with disability) empowerment.

"Lehitimong Pasigenyo ako, I live in the city center, kaya alam ko ang nangyayari (sa lugar ko)," Sarah said.

She knows all about public service through her dad, a former kagawad. It's tradition for her family to give to the less fortunate especially during Christmas time as a way of paying it forward.

"Turo sa min sa pamilya, matutong magbigay sa iba, mag-share ng blessing," Sara said. "Wala namang nawawala sa nagbibigay kasi bumabalik lang naman ang blessings."

While she admits life has changed for her since she decided to enter politics, her motivation to go on is the desire to "give joy" to people with wider reach that a public post allows.

This may sound basic but one of the things Sara vows to do should she win is to always serve people cheerfully, willingly.

Or, if it were a song, this "Ate Sarah," as some people call her, will do it "With A Smile."

"Hindi pwede yung masungit at mahirap i-approach," she said to that effect. "Hindi yung parang takot sa yong lumapit ang tao."

A good friend of Ara Mina, who, herself, is gunning for another post---as councilor of 2nd district of Pasig City---Sara pointed out that hers is a rags to
riches story.

"Hindi po ako pinanganak na mayaman," she revealed. "Pero kung nagawa ko (umahon sa buhay), magagawa din yon ng kahit na sinong Pasigenyo given the right opportunity and knowledge."
