Levito Baligod |
Lawyer Levito Baligod has solid credentials running for public office in Leyte but you'll never hear him badmouth the competition, certainly not based on their profession.
At a recent interview with the entertainment press, he gave candid response when asked for his thoughts on actors out to win public post.
"Ang public service ay isang mabigat na responsibilidad at kung tingin nila ay kaya nila itong bitbitin ay tumakbo sila," he said. "Walang tao ang pwedeng sabihin 'Ako lang ang nagmamahal sa bayan natin"---and anybody can claim he can do the job."
Still, he presents this challenge to them.
"Bago mangarap na maging pinuno tayo o mamuno tayo ay dapat muna maging role model tayo."
Levito pointed out that since most actors have the advantage of being already known to people because of the nature of their work, then they can be deemed as influencers.
"At kung influencer ka, may responsibilidad ka what you put in the mind of your followers," he said.
Asked for his opinion on celebrities weighing in on social media about the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Levito said that while they have the right to express themselves "mahirap makipag-debate sa issue kung hindi ka naman acquainted sa legal (aspects ng kaso)."
"Kaya request lang bago mag-post, pagaralan muna ng mabuti (ang issue)," he said.
He laments that many Filipinos have little to no faith on most of the candidates in any given election.
"Sabi nila, ang pinagpipilian lang daw ay matalinong magnanakaw o bobong magnanakaw----'So, dun na lang kami sa ma-e-entertain kami,'" Levito said.
Levito, an anti-corruption advocate, is calling on for a continuity budget process to minimize corruption in government.
The high-profile lawyer of Benhur Luy in the ₱10 billion pork barrel scam involving Janet Napoles promotes transparency in all government projects to ensure that public funds are used judiciously.
