Aspiring Manila mayor Sam Verzosa headed the "Manila is not for sale" rally yesterday at historical landmark Kartilya ng Katipunan with the aim of getting an "explanation" on
the sale of important properties in the city.
In a short interview with media, the "Dear SV" host pointed out that the money could and should have benefitted the Manilenyos instead of just a select few.
He cited a claim by another public servant that the sale likely totaled five billion pesos. If so, and if only the amount was divided equally among Manilenyos, then each person should have received 50,000 pesos.
"Sino ang mga nakinabang? Saan napunta ang pera? Sino ang mga nakabili?" he asked."Hindi ito pamumulitika. Wala akong tinutukoy, wala akong sinisiraan..."
He lamented the money could have been used to build more schools, markets, housing facilities that would benefit even the future generations of Manilenyos.
"Kaya kailangan bawiin...kailangan sagipin ang Maynila," Sam said. "Kung hindi, baka ulit-ulitin (ang pagbebenta)..."
He charged that the sale was done "nang di dumaan sa proseso" and with little or no "transparency" at all so there should be accountability.
In the end, he underscored: "Ang Maynila ay para sa Manilenyo."
