Congressman Sam Verzosa |
"Diyos na ang gumagawa ng paraan."
This is what Congressman Sam Verzosa said in an interview right after receiving the Gusi Peace Prize International 2024.
He is one of 16 laureates this year, and said to be the youngest recipient ever.
Sam received the award for his philanthropic works----something critics have been questioning ever since he started campaigning in line with his bid to win the mayoralty race in Manila in next year's election.
Note that during sorties, Sam has been giving away relatively pricey ayuda packages from his own pocket. Critics allege he's only made himself visible these days which the "Dear SV" host challenged by saying all his philanthropic efforts through the years are documented, hence, uncontestable.
Now comes the Gusi Peace Prize International which may be seen as Sam's ultimate vindication.
A prestigious award, Gusi Peace Prize International is considered by many, including Sam, as "the Asian counterpart of the Nobel Peace Prize."
The other laureates this year come Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Gabon, Honduras, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and the United States of America.
"I hope this inspires others to join the movement of helping others " Sam said. "And it's a sign na dito pa talaga sa lungsod ng Maynila ginawa ang awarding."
He reiterated that he has been doing philanthropic works nationwide and for a long time now. He emphasized humbly "galing ako sa wala na nagsumikap" to reach where he is now today.
He enjoined people to unite and uplift one another.
The other Filipino laureate this year is Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
