Sam Verzosa gives total of 6 million pesos to seniors at MLQU event

Sam Verzosa

If Lao Tzu were alive today, he'd likely approve of Sam Verzosa.

Like what the Chinese philosopher once said----give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime----the "Dear SV" host and public servant believes giving people livelihood and sources of income versus mere dole outs is better for them.

He reiterated the message in yet another outreach event held this time at Manuel L Quezon University in Manila yesterday, Oct. 10. Yes, he gives the Mang Juans and Aling Tasings fastfood, branded canned goods and high-end rice but it's his advocacy of teaching self-sufficiency that's always been paramount.

"Sa pagkakaron ng trabaho at kabuhayan niyo maiaangat ang sarili niyo," he reminded the crowd to that effect. "Yan ang magaahon sa inyo sa hirap. At kung nagawa namin yan sa mga taga-Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao, what more dito sa lungsod ng Maynila?"

Sam addressed critics who've alleged that to gain their trust, he's been "fooling" people by giving them "masasarap na Spam at Delimondo at magagandang klaseng produkto" instead of the usual can of sardines, noodles and regular rice.

As if those were not enough, Sam gave 2,000 peso allowance to 3,000 senior citizens in Sampaloc that day, totaling six million pesos.

All, he says, from his pocket, and out of the goodness of his heart. Sam, after all, is a very successful businessman---a millionaire many times over---whose company has its own charity arm, Frontrow Cares.

"Gusto ko kayo tratuhin ng tama," was Sam's simple, sincere explanation. "Dapat lang na ibigay sa inyo ang masasarap na pagkain."

He added: "Hindi lang sila ang dapat kumakain ng masarap, ang masarap ang buhay---dapat tratuhin kayo ng tama!"

Also on the premises were vans and trucks not just containing food and shirts, but also maintenance medicine being given away for free by medical professionals after doing the necessary procedures. Some of the vehicles also served as sort of satellite diagnostic centers on wheels.

Should Sam win as Manila mayor come Elections 2025, he also pledged to give senior citizens 2k monthly allowance.

But more than the financial and medical help, this is the main takeaway of Manilenos from any Sam Verzosa sortie.

"Gusto ko matanggap niyo ang mensahe ng pagasa at pagbabago."
