In a harmonious blend of civic duty and musical ambition, Pasig City Councilor Marion Rosalio “Maro” Martires and his fellow councilors have proven that public service and personal passions can resonate in perfect unison. Under the spotlight not only for their political duties but also for their musical talents, these local leaders have formed ‘Maropok,’ a band that epitomizes their journey from dreams to reality.

The inception of ‘Maropok’ began serendipitously when Councilor Maro and his colleague, Councilor Paul Roman “Pao” Santiago, discovered their mutual love for music over a casual dinner. This led to an impromptu jamming session that soon became an annual musical tradition for their community. Inspired by the cohesive power of music and their shared creative impulses, the councilors were joined by another civic-minded musician, Chino David. Together, they embarked on a musical venture that underscores their belief in the transformative power of pursuing one's passions.

“Pursuing musical dreams does not detract from our commitment to public service; on the contrary, it enriches it,” says Councilor Maro. “Engaging in music has brought a refreshed enthusiasm and a new perspective to our roles as public servants.” This sentiment is a chorus echoed by his bandmates, who also acknowledge the positive ripple effects their musical engagement has had on their professional responsibilities.

Named ‘Maropok,’ a term symbolizing their vulnerability to creativity, the band aims to inspire others to embrace their passions, irrespective of their professions or age. Their debut single ‘Sensitibo’ delves into the realities of life, reflecting themes of growth, miscommunication, and acceptance. The song encapsulates the bittersweet symphony of moving forward while acknowledging the inevitable changes that relationships undergo over time.

As the band has the same purpose, to serve their community, they also have the same passion that balances their purpose.
