Wilbert Tolentino's response to how he feels over the latest activity of Ahon Mahirap was appropriate: "Nakakataba ng puso."
His advocacy group founded in 2020 gave away 1,250 bowls of free "pares" meals at Quezon Memorial Circle in time for Philippine Independence Day celebration yesterday. With him were Ahon Mahirap president Kristin Aplal and some of their volunteers.
"Pares ang pinamigay namin dahil kung titingnan mo ang logo ng group, may dalawang tao na yung isa ay tinutulungan yung kasama niya na makaahon," she said. "So, 'pares,' parang pair din."
Wilbert said they plan to bring the caravan around Metro Manila and beyond though taking it to provinces would require more planning because they need to find a cook for each location.

"Aside sa bagong luto dapat, may signature na lasa kasi ang pares namin so the cook should use the same ingredients and go by the same steps sa pagluto nito," Wilbert said to that effect.
The celebrity behind the hit "Kain Tayo" added that anyone who has the capacity to help should do so.
"I think it's human nature na pag may nakita kang nangangailangan, gusto mong tumulong, may empathy ka," Kristin added. "Wilbert can certainly relate to our advocacy of poverty alleviation kasi galing din siya sa pagiging kapos."
Ahon Mahirap recently announced its mission to combat poverty and uplift the lives of people through a comprehensive agenda and programs focused on social justice, financial literacy, and economic empowerment.
"We envision a Philippines where every individual, regardless of their background and circumstance, has the opportunity to lead a life of dignity, prosperity and fulfillment. A society where poverty is a distant memory, and the principles of social justice, equity, and compassion are the cornerstones of our collective journey towards progress and harmony," read part of their press statement.
