Anyone who watches the trailer of the Rhen Escano-starrer "Karma" won't be able to tell she had a challenging time shooting them.

While she looked confident in her action scenes, director Albert Langitan revealed that on location in Baguio, the actress cried several times to him, saying she "can't do it."

"Nahirapan kasi talaga siya dahil matindi ang eksena," he said to that effect at a media conference. "I had to contantly remind her 'Nagawa mo na yung mga nakaraang eksena, kaya mo din ito.'"

Those who follow Rhen on social media will find it easy to believe Albert's story. To prepare for her role in the action movie, the actress took fight and gun training, clips of which she shared on her official social media accounts.

Her caption read, “Will never forget ilang beses akong umiyak kase akala ko ‘di ko kaya.”

We asked Rhen why she accepted a role that required almost too much from her and she replied: "Gusto ko magpapansin."

"Gusto ko mapansin niyo ako. Gusto ko maisip ng mga manonood na yung akala niyo di ko kayang gawin ay ginawa ko."

The actress added that she is the type of person who always tries to rise above her fears and doubts,

"Nung una sa king inoffer tong movie na to, nagsikip yung dibdib ko, as in my heart skipped a beat," Rhen said. "(Pero) matigas po yung ulo ko. Mas gusto ko yung nagda doubt sa akin yung tao para mas gagawin ko (to prove them wrong). Gusto ko laging pinu push ang sarili ko."

Showing in theater on June 19 from Viva Films, "Karma" also stars id Lucero, Roi Vinzon, Krista Miller, Mon Confiado, Paolo Paraiso and Leandro Baldemor.

Rhen plays Angel, an ace assassin who is forever scarred by her father’s murder. Angel was eight years old when her father was brutally killed right in front of her, and she grew up trying to protect those who are being oppressed. It came to a point where she accidentally killed a man who was attempting to rob a father and his child.

With the help of her godfather, the provincial kingpin called “Chief”, Angel was not sent to prison, but she became part of his covert assassin organization which only targets the society’s dregs. However, in her latest mission, the young daughter of her target witnessed her crime. Angel cannot erase from her mind the image of the girl holding her father’s lifeless body in her arms. Her remorse gets even stronger when she learns that the man she killed was not a drug pusher, but an undercover police officer. This discovery leads to more disturbing revelations about her godfather, the true nature of their organization, and the truth behind her father’s death. And now, there’s no stopping her from taking down the real culprit.

Sid plays Rommel, an ex-academician turned assassin. Rommel has had quite a temper since he was young. After a deadly encounter with a gang, Chief recruited him into his organization. Rommel and Angel became partners, treating each other like siblings. Though he is an efficient hitman, Rommel has never really liked this job and hopes to retire asap. Chief agrees to his retirement on one condition: that he will get rid of Angel who Chief now sees as a liability to their organization because of all the things she’s found out.

“Karma” is produced by Viva Films and Happy Infinite.
