If the huge success of its premiere night held at SM North Edsa on May 28 is an indication, then Viva Films' "Seoulmeyt" could be one of this year's hit Pinoy films.

The premiere night was led by "Seoulmeyt" stars Kim Molina and Jerald Napoles shipped by fans as KimJe. Directed by Darryl Yap, others in the cast are  Candy Pangilinan, Alma Moreno, Isay Alvarez and Ha Ju-young. The venue was dressed up as Seoul Sakura Dream, just one verdant garden of cherry blossoms! Also drawing lots of public attention were Diwata and Mima Otlum who attended the event, both saying it was their first red carpet experience.

Rom-com "Seoulmeyt" opens in 158 cinemas nationwide starting today, May 29.

The movie features the story of Luneta “Lunie” Paticul (Kim), a social worker and K-drama fan. Lunie hails from a village ravaged and strewn with debris by a typhoon. One day, a Korean conglomerate presents a golden opportunity to buy the land and build a new port there. The villagers are also promised better opportunities such as new jobs and improved housing. As the community’s leader, Lunie is in charge of negotiating with the Korean boss’s son, Park Ju Tae (Ha Ju-young).

However, Ju Tae refuses to meet with the landowners so he assigns his overzealous assistant, Juanito “Jun” Mamaril (Jerald) to do the job. Jun is forced to pretend as Ju Tae’s brother, transforming himself as Park Jun Jun, a Korean businessman.

To win over Lunie, Jun takes her to Korea where they work through the deal. They also navigate the growing affection between them. Chaos and hilarity further ensue when Lunie meets the real boss.

Despite the shenanigans and cultural conflicts, will Jun and Lunie’s feelings successfully translate into a romance? What will Lunie do when she finds out Jun’s fake persona?

For ‘Seoulmeyt,’ Viva Films and VinCentiments partnered with Film Line Productions from Korea, which has helped produce other Viva films like ‘Indak’ and ‘’Yung Libro Sa Napanood Ko.’

The film’s teaser video released in April featured Jerald’s ‘Oppafied Version’ of the song “Sa Iyo,” originally sung by pop superstar Sarah Geronimo.

The romantic-comedy film serves as the third project of Kim and Jerald with Darryl. The three previously worked together in the films ‘Jowable’ in 2019 and ‘Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam’ in 2021.

‘Seoulmeyt’ marks box-office director Darryl Yap’s 16th film.
