Swayed by buzz, other theater owners decide to screen 'Chances Are, You And I'

From 50 cinemas then 70 just few days ago, the movie "Chances Are, You And I" was announced last night to open today in 136 cinemas nationwide.

The announcement was made by "Chances" director Catherine Camarillo at the premiere night of the movie held at SM Megamall. In the days leading to the opening of the movie in cinemas, "Chances Are" got good reviews from those who've seen it. Besides, it was a spotlight entry at the Jinseo Arigato International Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan.

Visibly overwhelmed by this development, lead star Kira Balinger was in tears as she addressed the large crowd who crammed the venue, saying she wishes for everyone to enjoy the movie and to "fall in love with the characters" and learn the lesson of forgiveness.

Kelvin Miranda, the young leading man, also appeared to be in a bit of a shock over the huge turnout. It can be recalled a few weeks ago during the press conference for the movie that Kelvin was really hoping all these years that "Chances Are, You and I" would see the light of day despite getting derailed at the height of the pandemic.

Indeed, many of his and Kira's celebrity friends who attended the premiere night as show of support for the two said Kelvin has been talking about the film non-stop; about how he and Kira sunk their teeth in their characters that are far from those usually seen in rom-coms. Some of these celebrity friends are Iza Calzado, Polo Ravales, Kayla Estrada, Kokoy de Santos, and Herlene Budol.

In the movie, Kelvin plays Sol Sikat, a young man burdened with a brain tumor and a bleak outlook on life. Haunted by loss and impending mortality, Sol lives in a state of weary resignation. 

Kira is Gabi Sinag, Sol’s opposite – a vibrant soul who radiates optimism despite her tumor diagnosis. Gabi’s spirit refuses to be extinguished by the reality of her illness, as she chases every chance for joy and dreams of a normal life.
