Due to popular demand, Imelda Papin's biopic had another series of block screenings at Mall of Asia recently that saw her devoted fans and film lovers cheering her on as soon as the credits roll up.

Previously titled "Loyalista: The Untold Story of Imelda Papin," it is now simply "Imelda Papin: The Untold Story" for sound reasons as explained by Imelda herself and writer-director Gabby Ramos at a press conference held right before the first screening.

Gabby revealed that "Imelda Papin" is "100% truth." He said that at every turn in interviewing Imelda before writing the story, Gabby would verify if she was there when it happened so there was no second guessing everything that transpired. They also did not "embellish" even for cinematic license as they were confident that ultimately, stark truth sets everyone free.

I asked Imelda why they opt to show the film now when she could do so near election time---that is, if she has political plans in 2026? Merely smiling, the former Vice Governor of Camarines Sur said she leaves it up to God to guide her when it comes to that but for now, she just wants to focus on promoting the movie. However, she did not deny that there have been places and occasions when regular folks would come up to her and ask her to run for, say, senator so she could "embrace the whole nation."

As for the title, the word "loyalista" was removed because they did not want to give people the impression that the movie was made and is now being shown with a political agenda in mind. Despite that the story of "Imelda Story" involves the First Family, the Marcoses, at the time of political upheaval in the '80s, the movie imparts universal lessons about friendship, perseverance and, yes, loyalty in general.

We wonder, though, why the movie has no official soundtrack? Considering that Imelda Papin is foremost a singer,  a compilation of her songs reimagined for this generation would be welcome.

"Imelda Papin: The Untold Story" will have international screenings. There's Dubai, Singapore, Hawaii and perhaps even in mainland U.S. Congrats!
