Puregold Cinepanalo Film Festival holds awards night; 'Piaya,' 'Pushcart' tie for wins

 
"Under a Piaya Moon" has secured its place in history as one of two big winners at the first Puregold Cinepanalo Film Festival.

The awards ceremony held March 16 at Araneta City saw the movie win Best Picture, Actor (for Jeff Moses), Supporting Actor (Joel Torre), Cinematography (Nathan Bringuer), Production Design (Jed Sicangco and Kurt Soberano), Editing (Rodney Jarder, Jr. and Kurt Soberano), and the MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha Award.

The Ilonggo flick is about a young man who aspires to continue the family legacy by winning an inter-city pastry competition with the help of his feuding grandparents.

The other big winner is "Pushcart Tales" by diretor Sigrid Bernardo. She won the award for her work while the film bagged the Special Jury Prize, Actress (Shamaine Buencamino), Actor (Carlos Siguio-Reyna), Sound Design (Nioki Aquino), and Best Ensemble.


"Pushcart Tales" is about six people stuck inside a grocery store when a natural disaster strikes. 

In the short film category, 'Last Shift' bagged the Best Short Film award including Best Actor (VInce Macapobre) and Supporting Actor (Jules Azuala). 

Puregold Cinepanalo Film Festival runs till March 19 at Gateway Cinemas in Cubao. Festival Director is awarded movie director, publicist and producer Chris Cahilig.
