Public servant and actress Liza Diño finds the upcoming movie "When Magic Hurts" quite "promising" for several reasons.
"There's really chemistry between the actors, it's a well-acted movie," she began at a recent press conference. "Plus, an asset of the movie is its location. Atok is so beautiful...andami pala nating magandang location duon na hindi na natin kailangan mag Korea. Integral talaga sa narrative ng 'When Magic Hurts' ang location."
Shot in Atok Benguet, the movie stars Beaver Magtalas, Mutya Orquia and Maxine Trinidad; along with Claudine Barretto, Dennis Padilla, Angelica Jones, Archie Adamos, Soliman Cruz, Pantene Palanca, Aileen Papin, Mohaira Sanama, Julian Roxas, Denna Bautista, Whitney Tyson, Blumark Roses, Cassie Kim, Josie Tagle, Kris Valdellon, and Aryanna Barretto.
Diño, who is known to champion Filipino films abroad, said she and the producers of "When Magic Hurts" are "working on how to best showcase" the movie to a global audience.
"That's why it's important that the movie is ready (for that)," she said. "Dapat talaga maganda ang movie pag nilabas. Dahil once it's out, hindi mo na hawak ang perspective ng tao sa film. Kumbaga yung experience ng tao while viewing it, iba-iba. So, you need to showcase the best version of the project."
Diño praised Claudine, saying she's a "fan" of the multi-awarded actress.
"Claudine brings so much heart into the project," she said. "Her role is very significant."
Asked to name her favorite Claudine Barretto movie, Diño cited "Kailangan Kita" released in 2002 co-starring Aga Muhlach.
"I'm a chef so I find the movie 'Kailangan Kita' very organic with its inclusion of culinary elements," she said. "Yung love between her and Aga's characters ay kitang-kita sa movie."
Claudine thanked Diño for her kind words, revealing that one of the reasons she accepted filming "When Magic Hurts" is its theme song "Got To Believe In Magic." Sung and written by David Pomeranz, the song was used as theme song of one of Claudine's biggest movie of the same title that she did with former love team partner, the late Rico Yan.
"Tapos first movie pa to ng anak ko (Aryanna Barretto) so this is something I will always remember," she said.
The actress sees John Lloyd Cruz in Beaver.
"Beaver has lots of potential,” she said. “Napakagaling nung bata. Very, very close sya sa mga anak ko."
When Magic Hurts” is a magical movie about young love. Beaver plays Ernesto Buenvaventura, a loving son and brother who is humble and obedient. His paths cross with that of Olivia (Mutya Orquia), an orphan who was once a believer in magic but is now disillusioned.
Meanwhile, Maxine plays Trixie Callejo, a strong-willed young lady who loves to learn and explore new things. She is quite adventurous and willing to take on new challenges but is also determined to do everything to get what she wants at any cost. With her intelligence, she has managed to get into prestigious schools in the United States with the help of her parents who will also do everything to give to their only child what she wants for herself.
"When Magic Hurts" is set to open in cinemas nationwide in May.
