'Raging Grace' opens in PH cinemas on Jan. 17

The horror-mystery film that haunted the movie theaters in London and other parts of the world is finally making its way to the Philippines cinemas. Starring Max Eigenmann, Jaeden Paige Boadilla, Leanne Best, and David Hayman, Raging Grace is about an illegal Filipina immigrant, Joy (Max Eigenmann), struggling from one job to another so she can secure a better life for herself and her daughter Grace (Jaeden Paige Boadilla). Joy finally felt like she hit the jackpot when she landed a job at an old mansion as a housemaid to a middle-aged woman (Leanne Best) and a care worker to a terminal old man (David Heyman). But her relief from securing this job is short-lived when she uncovers a deep-dark secret about her employers, and the longer she and Grace stay in the mansion, the more haunting each day becomes.

The film is not only about horror and jump-scare scenes but also touches on topics about racism, social classes, inequality, and the hardships of undocumented immigrants trying to survive away from their homeland. 

Raging Grace is written and directed by Paris Zarcilla and is also his debut film. The young director showed excellence and talent in making this movie, which earned him a Maverick Award nomination at the British Independent Film Awards.

Raging Grace is the first British Filipino film produced in the UK. The film captured not only the audience but also the critics’ attention as it gained numerous awards, such as the Thunder Bird Rising Award and SXSW Grand Jury Award from SXSW Film Festival, the International Critic’s Award, Youth Jury Award, and Audience Award from Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival, and nominations from British Independent Film Awards and Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival.
