Where was Imelda Papin in the late '80s?
Many of her fans still wonder about this. Recall that shortly after the EDSA Revolution of 1986, the iconic singer behind the hits "Kung Liligaya Ka," "Hindi Ako Laruan" and "Isang Linggong Pag-ibig" suddenly stepped out of the limelight at the height of her career.
In a recent interview, Imelda said all will be revealed through her movie "Loyalista: The Untold Story of Imelda Papin" that's set to have a theatrical run in the Philippines sometime February or March 2024.
"Ngayon ko lang po ito isha-share sa lahat: I lived in Hawaii with the former President Marcos and First Lady Imelda," she said.
And that's not even a spoiler. Her fans and moviegoers would still want to know why she went there, how she lived there and how she staged her successful comeback in the Philippine music scene in the '90s.
"My daughter, Mafi, said it's about time na malaman ng mga followers what happened to you back then. You owe it to them," the singer said.
Mafi Papin, who was seated beside Imelda during our interview, said the story of "Loyalista" is nothing short of "heartfelt."
"You'll also see how my mom started," she said. "Madaming revelations. Matututo kayo---at iiyak kayo!"
Asked if the First Family has seen "Loyalista," Imelda said that President Bongbong Marcos found out about it when she and the rest of the Actors Guild of the Philippines went to Malacanang for oath-taking.
"Binigyan namin si President Marcos ng t-shirt (ng movie) at happy nama siya," she said.
