Horror movie 'Marita' delivers the goods

After the success of "Mary Cherry Chua" comes another horror movie from writer-director Roni Benaid based on urban legend that many Gen Zs are familiar with.

Marita (played by Rhen Escano) is an actress who committed suicide in a school auditorium full of people because her star was fading and she just couldn't accept it. Decades later, when teacher Sandra (Louise de los Reyes) was tasked to revive the school's theater company, Marita would haunt not only the venue but the cast and crew of the production they were working on.

At the premiere night of "Marita" tendered by Viva Films and Studio Viva at SM Megamall last Nov. 21, moviegoers screamed their heads off everytime Marita appeared onscreen. They also applauded Susan and her young actors in scenes where they faced the evil bent on bringing them down. There's a surprise twist in the story so viewers would do well to sit through the entire movie unless they miss it.

Aside from Louise and Rhen, the movie stars Ashtine Olviga, Andrea Babbiera, Yumi Garcia, Ethan David, Neil Tolentino, Sara Joe, Taneo Uyam and JD Axie.

"Marita" opens in Philippine cinemas on Nov. 22. It will also be shown in the UAE in December.
