The youngest among 8 children, Yeng, whose father is a librarian, took the responsibility of being bread winner of her family. Her mother told her she could earn more in showbiz. Yeng did the rounds of the local singing contests at 9 years old — with the help of her father. The value of earning money was clear to Yeng at an early age; and nag-swear sya na tutulong sya sa Nanay nya. At 14, she did the rounds performing in small gigs in Marikina’s bars.
