Businessman and producer Roy Gomez of "The Special Gift" has pointed out the edge his independently-produced movie has over those bankrolled by mainstream studios.

"(It has) Heart," he said at a press conference. "Naging passion ko na kasi ito at kung wala yon ay hindi ako makikipagsabayan sa pag gawa at paglabas ng pelikula lalo pa at alam naman nating hindi pa talaga masyadong tinatao ang Filipino movies sa mga sinehan."

Roy added that putting up RC Gomez Entertainment Productions has divine guidance.

"Si Lord ang pinanghahawakan ko dito. Meron akong blessing sa kanya na 'Ituloy mo siya at Ako na ang bahala,'" he revealed. "The Lord told me, 'Wag kang mamroblema, darating at darating sila (audience) sa yo.'"

Lawrence Roxas

Intended more for screening in schools than in cinemas, "The Special Gift" is said to have been guided by consultation with the Department of Education that suggested the story would paint teachers the heroes that they are.

RC Gomez Entertainment Productions started before the pandemic when friends and brothers-in-Christ Roy and director Lawrence Roxas, both film enthusiasts, envisioned making inspirational movies. They planned to produce a movie to be shot in Mindoro about true-to-life heroism of teachers in the barrios. However, the lockdown was implemented and that movie's principal photography was cancelled. Since the pandemic restrictions eased up this year, they revisited their vision and pushed through with the "The Special Gift."

As for Roy, he started working at an early age as helper to his mother in selling fruits and vegetables. Right after college graduation, he worked as a salesman and a business development officer. Not satisfied with his earnings, he started selling properties as freelance real estate and loan agent.

During the early part of the pandemic, he ventured into construction business by establishing his own company, the Froy-Asia Construction and Development Corporation.

We read the summary of "The Special Gift:" Though loved by his mother and two siblings, 10-year-old Liam (played by Franchesco Maafi) often finds it hard to fit in as he is bullied in school and scolded by his grouchy father, It is his passionate teachers who discover the truth about him: Liam is a gifted child!
