Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio issued last week a Memorandum to all Television (TV) Networks, Blocktimers, Program Producers, and Distributors, reminding them to ensure that the garments worn by talents are secure and suitable for their performances.

This was an offshoot of recent episodes of certain live television programs whose talents suffered wardrobe malfunctions while performing on stage. While Sotto-Antonio emphasized that the MTRCB cited the incidents as accidents, she, however, stressed that the Board was obliged to issue a reminder due to the frequency of such occurrences. “Be reminded that any more similar occurrences in the future shall be dealt with more severely,” she said. Section 8, Chapter V of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Presidential Decree No. 1986 provides that in the case of live television programs such as noontime variety shows and talk shows, the phrase Parental Guidance (PG) shall be superimposed on screen throughout the airing of the program. The superimposition serves as a reminder not only to parents to be vigilant but also to TV stakeholders to be always cautious and attentive to content for the protection mainly of our children.
