TV and movie comedy actress Kakai Bautista was bullied at a young age for being poor, and for being deemed an ugly duckling.
But she acknowledged what she couldn’t change —- and those she could.
“Oo, di kagandahan ang hugis ng ngipin ko. Pero maganda ang mga mata ko," said Kakai to ace TV host and journalist Korina Sanchez Roxas.
“Wala kaming pambili nung laruan ng kapitbahay namin. Kaya kumuha ako ng halaman at sinulid at kahoy! Ayun lahat sila nainggit sa ginawa kong laruan ko. Para paraan lang yan."
In awe of her subject, Korina said: "She not only survived, she fluorished. Grabe ang kuwento ng babaeng ito. And her voice. Wow. Imagine taga plantsa sya dati wardrobe ni Lea Salonga for theatre?
“Kakai Bautista is not your usual sought-after interviewee. But I know their stories. I handpick who I interview. And kapag pinili ko, ang ibig sabihin, may magandang kuwento."
