Ian Veneracion thankful he can count on 'tita' fans to watch his concerts

Ian Veneracion

Ian Veneracion started as child actor and decades later, he shines at his chosen profession with a Metro Manila Film Festival 2022 Best Actor trophy to boot lang naman. Oh, and he sings too.

We were reminded of this at the recent press conference for his upcoming concert "Ian Veneracion, Live!" happening at Winford Manila Hotel on Aug, 12. Directed by Vergel Sto. Domingo, his guest performers are Marissa Sanchez and Zach Ponce. The concert beneficiaries are Golden Gays.

While Ian acknowledges some people still can't wrap it around their head that he is a professional singer who has already done so many concerts here and abroad, he knows that no matter what, he can count on many of his "tita" fans to watch his shows. This is the reason that while he is open to catering to larger demographic, his repertoire is primarily drafted for his age group, the Gen Zs.

Say, do you know that Ian doesn't like to sing using minus-one accompaniment? Yes, he'd opt for bare piano and guitar over canned music to sing over, saying he feels live instrumentation better in that it puts him in the mood to put up the mic and sing mostly rock, blues and middle of the road numbers.

Open to collaborations, Ian has done duets with the likes of Daniel Padilla, Ogie Alcasid, Bea Alonzo and Regine Velasquez. In a separate interview after the general press conference, we asked him if he knows about Ppop music, particularly SB19, a group out to put Pinoy music on the world map. He honestly said its the first time he has heard of the term Ppop, but his eyes lit up upon hearing about SB19, saying he has seen one of their videos and that he finds it "artistically done."

Well, we wouldn't be surprised if he does end up singing newer songs. One who admits to take "calculated risks," Ian is known to try anything and everything after all. He is, in fact, a pilot and also a painter.

And despite feeling scared sometimes when he takes the plunge---say, paragliding or scuba diving---the singer-actor has mindset of "detachment" so that he wouldn't miss a thing.

In fact, at this point, Ian said that he is learning to "subtract" things from his life. "Why have so many cars when you can drive only one? Why have so many houses?" he said, almost to himself.

Whatever, the titas will certainly agree to this: Ian remains one of the most handsome men in show business!
