Paolo Gumabao-starrer 'Spring in Prague' soon in theaters, says Atty Ferdinand Topacio of Borracho Films

Paolo Gumabao and Sara Sandeva

Paolo Gumabao steps away from the sexy movie genre to do romantic-comedy movie "Spring in Prague," the next offering of Borracho Films headed by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio.

This was announced recently at a press conference during which Paolo's leading lady, Czech actress Sara Sandeva, was introduced to Philippine media.

Key scenes from "Spring in Prague" will be shot in Prague, of course, and also in local scenic spots including Puerto Galera.

Topacio said Boraccho Films continue to uphold its commitment of giving Filipino audiences the movies that they deserve, such as the outfit's most recent offering, the Metro Manila Film Festival official entry "Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told." He said that while it would be nice if a movie becomes a box-office hit, what's more important to them is coming up with "quality" projects with substance.

"Spring in Prague" will be released in 2023, a time when Czech and Philippine relations reach a milestone, he added.

According to a release, "Spring in Prague" sees Maruska "Marie" Ruzicka (Sara Sandeva), a young Czech model, travel to Asia for the first time to escape her controlling father. On the recommendation of her best friend Estrella (Elena Kozlova), a fellow model who happens to be part Filipina, she ends up staying in a resort in the Philippines. A misunderstanding following an accident caused by her wayward camera drone sparks a fast burn romance with the free-spirited resort owner, Alfonso "Alfie" Mucho (Paolo Gumabao).

After only five days, however, Marie receives news that her mother has fallen gravely ill. She abruptly returns to Prague, leaving Alfie heartbroken. It turns out her father exaggerated her mother's medical condition to force her to cut her trip short and come home.

Vilem Ruzicka [actor's name to follow] is the son of a former leader of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. He romanticizes the Czech Republic's past as a former satellite state of the Soviet Union and distrusts Western culture in general. He keeps his daughter under house arrest as punishment for her holiday escape to the Philippines. Only Estrella is allowed to visit her.

A clandestine phone call from Marie convinces Alfie that what they had was more than a vacation fling. He flies to Prague in hopes of setting her free and arrives in the dead of winter with zero idea where to begin.

"Spring in Prague" will soon hit Philippine cinemas as well as theaters in other countries.
